What Happens When A Nation Forgets God

A single line from Scripture can expose what we really worship. We open with Deuteronomy and the first commandment, then keep coming back to the same question: what happens to a family and a nation when God is treated like an optional add-on instead of the center?

We move from prayer into real life, including the shock of loss and the reminder that people matter more than things. That perspective reshapes the daily priority list fast. I ask God for forgiveness, for courage over cowardice, and for the strength to live the gospel in actions, not just words. If you’re carrying grief, stress, or the weight of trying to lead a home, you’ll hear language you can borrow for your own prayers.

From there we read Proverbs 5:18–19 and talk plainly about marriage, intimacy, and why the advice you accept has to line up with God and Jesus Christ. We also read Deuteronomy 5 at length, walking through the Ten Commandments as a foundation for moral clarity, personal restraint, and public life, alongside reflections on education and the long fight over faith in the public square.

We close with stories that aim straight at courage: Medal of Honor duty under fire, and Harriet Tubman’s testimony about trusting God when she felt utterly alone. If this conversation helps you, subscribe, share it with someone you love, and leave a review so more people can find the show.

No Other God But Him

SPEAKER_01

Deuteronomy five verses six and seven. I am the Lord your God who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. You must not have any other God but me. February first, twenty twenty-six, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. Five-year-old girl was raped while being babysat by Carlos Aguilar Renoso, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala. The attack caused serious internal injuries requiring surgery. Hey folks, this is Jesse Coke back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast. Hope y'all are doing well wherever y'all are, whatever part of the day you're in. I sure do appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time and attention, a little piece of your day. I will try and use it wisely. For those of y'all who continue to share the podcast and tell others about it, thank you. For those of y'all who continue to pray for me and for the podcast, thank you very much. Very grateful for your prayers.

SPEAKER_00

Father, thank you for today. Thank you for you, Father, and your Son, Jesus Christ, and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness of sins. Thank you for the people that you put in our lives. Thank you for those who have gone before us who have set such wonderful examples of serving you, of loving you and your son Jesus Christ. Help us to do the same for those who follow us. Help us to spread the gospel of your son Jesus Christ, not merely with words, but with actions, deeds.

Grief And The People That Matter

SPEAKER_01

Help us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, with you, Father, and your Son Jesus Christ, not here on this earth. Oh, Father, forgive us our sins. Forgive us our cowardice and our unbelief. Help us to overcome them we do believe. Be with our military, be with our law enforcement, our firefighters, our EMS, our ranchers and farmers, fishers, forestrymen, those who keep our infrastructure running. Be with their family. Help us to do your will. Guide my words here and your son's family pray. Amen. Had somebody pass away in the family recently.

SPEAKER_00

And uh folks, people are what matter. Make sure you have the right things at the forefront of your daily priority list.

SPEAKER_01

And make sure that you are leading them as much as you can toward God and Jesus Christ and eternity there so that you get to be with them for forever.

SPEAKER_00

That they have that relationship with God and Jesus Christ and eternal life. Just a reminder that this is not our home. People matter, folks.

Marriage Verse And Sound Counsel

Why The Ten Commandments Matter

Deuteronomy 5 Read Aloud

SPEAKER_01

Things don't. Marriage verse for today? Well, I had it and I lost it. So I'm gonna see if I can get it back real quick. Proverbs 5, 18 and 19. May your spring be blessed. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. She is a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts intoxicate you all the time. Always be drunk on her love. Whatever marriage advice you're getting, folks, make sure that it's lining up with God and Jesus Christ. And if you don't know, you can listen to these marriage verses each day on the podcast and you can look them up for yourself in the Bible. And if you do know, then make sure you're not listening to somebody else that's leading you astray. We're going to read Old Testament today, as opposed to the new, because it has the Ten Commandments in there. And when you listen to the Ten Commandments, I want you to realize, remember this. We took have over the last 80 years, ever since Everson v. Board of Education and the whole separation of church and state debacle from the Supreme Court, taking God more and more out of our constitutions, institutions, public life of our nation. And when you read through these, when we read through these Ten Commandments, realize that there's people out there that they don't want to teach kids these Ten Commandments. And just realize that your friends, your neighbors, coworkers, people that vote for the left, vote for Islam. They don't want God and Jesus Christ in the Bible to be the center of education. And they don't like these Ten Commandments. Deuteronomy 5, 1 through 625. Moses called all the people of Israel together and said, Listen carefully, Israel. Here are the decrees and regulations I'm giving you today, so you may learn them and obey them. The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Mount Sinai. The Lord did not make this covenant with our ancestors, but with all of us who are alive today. At the mountain, the Lord spoke to you face to face from the heart of the fire. I stood as an intermediary between you and the Lord, for you were afraid of the fire and did not want to approach the mountain. He spoke to me, and I passed his words on to you. This is what he said. I am the Lord your God who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. You must not have any other God but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children, the entire family is affected, even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me, but I lavish unfailing love for a thousand generations on those who love me and obey my commands. You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name. Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy as the Lord your God has commanded you. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest, dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your oxen and donkeys and other livestock, and any foreigners living among you. All your male and female servants must rest as you do. Remember that you were once slaves in Egypt, but the Lord your God brought you out with his strong hand and powerful arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to rest on the Sabbath day. Honor your father and mother as the Lord your God commanded you. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you. You must not murder, you must not commit adultery, you must not steal, you must not testify falsely against your neighbor, you must not covet your neighbor's wife, you must not covet your neighbor's house or land, male or female servant, ox or donkey or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. The Lord spoke these words to all of you assembled there at the foot of the mountain. He spoke with a loud voice from the heart of the fire, surrounded by clouds and deep darkness. This was all he said at that time, and he wrote his words on two stone tablets and gave them to me.

SPEAKER_00

And I think we'll stop there for today, folks.

Ten Commandments. Countryside. If you are looking for a family-friendly middle grade read, if you would check out the Countryside series, and here's the first book, The Book of the Wise, and some reviews for it. If you enjoy it, if you would leave the review yourself for either the first or this, the second book, the tears of Adina. I would be very grateful for it. Those five-star reviews help immensely. Same thing with the podcast. So thank you. December 16th, 2014, Peshwar, Pakistan. Seven gunmen from the Muslim group Tariq Taliban Pakistan TTP stormed the Army, public school, and degree college during morning classes. They separated the boys from the girls, executed teachers and students at point blank range with automatic weapons and suicide vests. They killed 149 people, including 132 school children, injured more than 130 others in an eight-hour siege before Pakistani commandos ended the assault.

That is Islam mainstream. And that's a what awaits us in America and in the UK. The more power is given to the left and followers of Islam.

Medal Of Honor Courage Under Fire

Harriet Tubman Trusting God In Trouble

SPEAKER_01

Medal of Honor for today, Wilson Brown, Landsman, U.S. Civil War, USS Hartford, U.S. Navy, August 5th, 1864, Fort Morgan, Mobile Bay, Alabama. On board the flagship USS Hartford during successful attacks against Fort Morgan, rebel gunboats, and the Ram, Tennessee in Mobile Bay on 5 August, 1864. Knocked unconscious into the hold of the ship when an enemy shell burst fatally wounded a man on the ladder above him, Brown, upon regaining consciousness, promptly returned to the shell whip on the berth deck and zealously continued to perform his duties, although four of the six men at this station had been either killed or wounded by the enemy's terrific fire. Accredited to Mississippi River, Mississippi, not awarded posthumously, born 1841, Natchez, Adams County, Mississippi, Natchez, Natchez, died January 24, 1900, buried Natchez National Cemetery, MHG TAC 152, Mississippi, location of Metal Naval Historical Center, Washington, Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Wilson Brown. Today we'll see if we get to anything else. Harriet Tubman, you remember, was escaped slave and a union spy, and her biographer, Sarah H. Bradford, wrote this down from her. I had crossed the line of which I had so long been dreaming.

SPEAKER_00

I was free, but there was no one to welcome me to the land of freedom.

SPEAKER_01

I was a stranger in a strange land, and my home, after all, was down in the old cabin quarter with the old folks and my brothers and sisters. But to this solemn resolution I came. I was free, and they should be free also. I would make a home for them in the north, and the Lord helping me, I would bring them all there. Oh how I prayed then, lying all alone on the cold, damp ground. Oh dear Lord, I said, I ain't got no friend but you. Come to help, come to my help, Lord, for I'm in trouble. Twasn't me, 'twas the Lord. I always told him I trust to you. I don't know where to go or what to do, but I expect you to lead me. And he always did.

SPEAKER_00

When you're down, folks, when you think that there's no solution, when you don't know where to turn, remember some of these stories that we read on a regular basis. Remember when the odds were overwhelmingly against those people.

The Lord’s Prayer And Blessing

SPEAKER_01

And remember when they turn to God and hopefully we do that and help each other do that in our own lives today. To look to God, to trust God, to lean on not on our own understanding, but on God. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the stay our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families, God bless your marriages if you're married. God bless your nation wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
