The American Soul
We Cannot Govern Well Without God And The Bible
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
A Roman officer watches Jesus die and blurts out a verdict he can’t take back: “Surely this man was innocent.” We start there, in Luke 23, with darkness over the land and Jesus entrusting His spirit to the Father and then we follow the story into Luke 24 where the women find an empty tomb and the world turns right-side up again.
From that anchor, we shift into prayer for your marriage, your family, and your protection, and we read Genesis 9 on God’s command to be fruitful and multiply. We talk honestly about population decline, the pressure to chase comfort and status, and how easy it is for Christians to treat God’s commands as optional when they collide with our preferred standard of living. We also reflect on guilt and repentance through Proverbs 14 and on God’s justice, holiness, forgiveness, and discipline through Psalm 99.
The second half widens out into cultural commentary and American heritage. We mention a recent crime story used to argue against defending illegal immigration, and we reference an honor killing case while discussing fears about ideology, assimilation, and the health of Western civilization. We then turn to history with a Medal of Honor citation and close with George Washington on Providence and his warning that good government requires God and the Bible.

The Cross And A Shocking Headline
SPEAKER_00Luke twenty-three, starting with verse forty-five. Then Jesus shouted, Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands. And with those words he breathed his last. When the Roman He worships God said surely this man was innocent. July 20th, 2025, Morehead, Kentucky. A mother, Alita Lopez, was attempted to be raped. And her 15-year-old son was murdered while defending her from Gildardo Amador Martinez, criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico. Think about that, folks, when you're those or you see those in your community who continue to defend illegal immigration. Hey folks, this is Jesse Cope back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast. Hope y'all are doing well wherever y'all are, whatever part of the day you're in. Sure to appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time and attention, a little piece of your day. I will try and use it wisely. For those of y'all who continue to share the podcast and to pray for me and for the podcast, thank you very, very much. Very grateful for your prayers, especially. Father, thank you for today. Thank you for you, Father, and your son, Jesus Christ, and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness of sins. Thank you that we can entrust our spirit to you. That we can trust your promise and bring it home because of our faith in your Son Jesus Christ. Please be with those listening to the podcast, Father. Surround them with your angels, protect them from evil of any kind, bless their marriages, guide them in raising children, those who have them.
SPEAKER_01Keep us on the narrow path, Father. Forgive us when we stray. Thank you that you welcome welcome us home like the prodigal son, even when we go far afield.
Marriage Verses And Fruitful Families
SPEAKER_00And defend us, please defend them. Protect them. Keep their families safe. Help us to support and encourage them. And God, my words here, Father, please, in your son's name we pray. Amen. Marriage verses for today. Genesis 9, 1 and 7. God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, Be fertile. Multiply and fill the earth. That's verse 1, verse 7. As for you, be fruitful and increase in number, multiply on the earth and increase upon it. Having a lot of kids, folks, wasn't just some random suggestion by God. And we see that today. You can see a lot of really bright people talking about the fact that population is collapsing in a lot of parts of the globe. And not only that, particularly in Christian society, which is just shocking because we we claim to follow Christ. And yet, what have we been doing? Especially in America, you look like, oh, we got two kids per kid. Two kids below replacement level, folks. You can't have an average of two.
SPEAKER_01It's gotta be like 2.1 or something, I think. The point is, even even if that was we're not doing what God told us.
Darkness To Dawn In Luke
God’s Kingship And Loving Discipline
SPEAKER_00We're just we're just doing the bare minimum. At best. Why? Because we want to go off and chase our own selfish dreams and standard of living instead of chasing God, right? I'm guilty of it. I mean, at least be honest enough to say, ah, God, your commands aren't really that important. I'd rather go and do what I want to do, live the way I want to live. Luke 23, 44 through 24, 12. By this time it was about noon and darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock. The light from the sun was gone, and suddenly the curtain in the sanctuary of the temple was torn down the middle. Then Jesus shouted, Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands. And with those words he breathed his last. When the Roman officer, overseeing the execution, saw what had happened, he worshipped God and said, Surely this man was innocent. And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow. But Jesus' friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching. Now there was a good and righteous man named Joseph. He was a member of the Jewish High Council, but he had not agreed with the decision and actions of the other religious leaders. He was from the town of Arimathea in Judea, and he was waiting for the kingdom of God to come. He went to Pilate and asked for Jesus' body. Then he took the body down from the cross, wrapped it in a long sheet of linen cloth, and laid it in a new tomb that had been carved out of rock. This was done late on Friday afternoon, the day of preparation, as the Sabbath was about to begin. As his body was taken away, the women from Galilee followed and saw the tomb where his body was placed, and then they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished, the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by law. But very early on Sunday morning, the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn't find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes. The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn't here. He has risen from the dead. Remember what he told you back in Galilee that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified. Then they remembered that he had said this. So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples and everyone else what had happened. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary, the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened. But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn't believe it. However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings. Then he went home again, wondering what had happened. This is a side note, folks, but when people tell you, right, Christianity is oppressive, look at the fact that these women were openly admitted in this part of the story, right? That is that gonna happen in Islam? Is that gonna happen in in so many other societies and ideologies, political and otherwise, around the world? No. And and so you hear people complain today, a lot of feminists, a lot of women, well, respecting your husband, submitting to his authority, right? Just because you have a different task doesn't make you less valuable or more valuable. Right? But when we try and do what isn't our job, we make ourselves less valuable.

The Lord’s Prayer And Blessing
SPEAKER_00The Lord is King. Let the nations tremble. He sits on his throne between the cherubim. Let the whole earthquake. The Lord sits in majesty in Jerusalem, exalted above all the nations. Let them praise your great and awesome name. Your name is holy, mighty King, lover of justice, you have established fairness. You have acted with justice and righteousness throughout Israel. Exalt the Lord our God, bow low before his feet, for he is holy. Moses and Aaron were among his priests. Samuel also called on his name. They cried to the Lord for help. He spoke to Israel from the pillar of cloud, and they followed the laws and decrees he gave them. O Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but you punished them when they went wrong. Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his holy mountain in Jerusalem, for the Lord our God is holy. That's a pretty good thing. I need to remember that more often. O Lord our God, you answered them. You were forgiving God to them, but you punished them when they went wrong so often. I think I know, I forget that God disciplines those he loves. Like the father, a child he delights in, right? Proverbs 14, 9 through 10. Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation. That really sums up a lot of America right now today, folks. Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation. Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy. Y'all know that one, right? By experience. Countryside, the book of the wise. If you're looking for a family-friendly middle grade read, kind of like Narnia, The Hobbit, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, Fable Haven. Uh if you would check out the Countryside series, there's two books in it. I would appreciate it. And if you enjoy it, if you would leave a review of your own for the first andor the second book. This review, five-star review on Amazon by Hannah, I just, it's one of my favorites. I'm going to read it again because I guess I get to do that since I'm the one doing the podcast. Some perks, right? Uh to me, it was a mix of Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings. It had elements of each, in my opinion, but in its own style. Great read. Countryside is where I want to go. Also, if you feel like you're getting something out of the podcast, if you have five or ten dollars a month, donuts, a link in the show notes where you can set that up. And I would be very grateful for that as well. April 2003, Manchester, UK, Samiya Imran. 16-year-old British Pakistani girl was shot dead by her mother, Shakila Imran, a Muslim woman in an honor killing after running away from home to escape a forced marriage and refusing to return to her abusive family. I think this one's, there's some that are that are really important because they show certain aspects. Islam, you know, when you hear people talk about extremists or terrorists or fringe or far, whatever, there really isn't any such thing. And there's also no such thing as a moderate Muslim, right? There are Muslims who are good Muslims, and there are Muslims who are bad Muslims, right? The good ones, though, they do this kind of stuff. This is mainstream Islam. It doesn't just affect the men, it doesn't just, it affects the whole society where Islam has taken root. And that's exactly what we have looking us in the face in Western civilization and America in particular. Medal of Honor for today, Richard Burke, private Indian Campaigns. Gulf Company, 5th U.S. Infantry, U.S. Army, October 21st, 1876 through January 8, 1877. Cedar Creek, etc., Montana, USA. Gallantry in engagements. Credited to New York. Don't you know that was an interesting uh experience for a kid from New York to be out in Montana fighting Indians? Not awarded posthumously, presented July 18, 1877, at parade at the Cantonment at the Yellowstone and Tongue Rivers, Montana Territory, by General William T. Sherman. Born 1847 for Ireland, died September 1st, 1881. Buried Custer Battlefield National Cemetery, Crow Agency, Montana, United States. There's a lot of history just in the citation and accreditation. Again, folks, notice this kid came out of Ireland and notice the difference between the immigrants that we're getting today, the illegal and mass Muslim immigrants, and just what we got so much in the past. A couple quotes today for our American heritage section. I'm taking these out of the American Patriots Bible, edited by Dr. Richard G. Lee. Great resource. Talk about it often. But you can find these in a lot of places, numerous places online. I think the uh founders' Bible by the Wall Builder Association has quite a few of these, and also the American God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotes. Washington, George Washington, April 30th, 1789, inaugural address. No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than those of the United States. Little side note: every president from George Washington on has prayed, invoked prayer, or asked God in some form or fashion for his blessing on the United States, continued blessing during their inaugural address, right? You look at New York, right? Folks, as we start to elect people that don't worship God and Jesus Christ, that don't acknowledge their providence, it is going to be condemning for our nation. We can't turn our back, right? God will not be mocked. We can't elect Muslims, communists, socialists, atheists, Hindus, Buddhists. We can't elect those people, Jews, and expect that there's not going to be some punishment on our nation. That's just unintelligent to say the least. I wanted to read one more quote from Washington, just because I like to read it as often as possible. If I can find it somewhere, there we go. It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and the Bible. George Washington, first president. Might be a good idea to listen. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families, your marriages if you're married. God bless your nation wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
