Scripture And Temple Zeal

John two, starting with verse thirteen. It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the temple area, he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices. He also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Forgive us our pride and our greed, our selfishness, judgment of others, rash words and actions, our cowardice and our unbelief, lust, covetousness, lying, procrastination. Forgive us when we turn and go our own way. Forgive us when we get our priorities out of line, Father, when we focus on what the world tells us to instead of what you tell us to. Ease our anxiety, depression, fear. When we feel overwhelmed, Father. With heavy burdens, help us to remember that we can turn to your son.

Starting with verse one. All night long on my bed I looked for the one my heart loves. I looked for him, but did not find him. I will get up now and go about the city. Excuse me. Through its streets and squares. I will search for the one my heart loves. So I looked for him but did not find him. The watchman found me as they made their rounds in the city. Have you seen the one my heart loves? Scarcely had I passed them when I found the one my heart loves. I held him and would not let him go, till I had brought him to my mother's house, to the room where the of the one who conceived me. Daughters of Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does of the field, do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.

Cana Miracle And Temple Cleansing

Scripture for today, John 2, 1 through 25. The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there. And Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus' mother told him, They have no more wine. Dear woman, that's not our problem, Jesus replied, My time has not yet come. But his mother told the servants, Do whatever he tells you. Standing nearby were six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the servants, Fill the jars with water. When the jars had been filled, he said, Now dip some out and take it to the Master of Ceremonies. So the servants followed his instructions. When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from, though of course the servants knew, he called the bridegroom over. A host always serves the best wine first, he said. Then when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now. This miraculous sign at Canaan in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him. After the wedding, he went to Capernaum for a few days with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples. It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem. In the temple area, he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices. He also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money. Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the temple. He drove out the sheep, the cattle, scattered the money changers' coins over the floor and turned over their tables. Then going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, Get these things out of here. Stop turning my father's house into a marketplace. Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the scriptures. Passion for God's house will consume me. Folks, in America today, in particular Western civilization as a whole, if we had the same passion as Christians for Christianity and Jesus Christ that many of the Muslims do for Islam, for Muhammad, for the evil ideologies there, we wouldn't have even a fraction of the problems that we have today in our nation, our communities, our families, and our marriages. But the Jewish leaders demanded, What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it. All right, Jesus replied. What? They exclaimed. But when Jesus said this temple, he meant his own body. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed both the scriptures and what Jesus had said. Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. But Jesus didn't trust them. Because he knew all about people. No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person's heart. Father, help us to cleanse our hearts, to turn to you. You know the iniquities and the sins that are there, Father. Please cleanse us of any, and bring us home to you and your Son Jesus Christ. In his name we pray, Amen.

Psalm 103 On Mercy

Psalm 103, 1 through 22. Let all that I am praise the Lord with my whole heart. I will praise His holy name. Let all that I am praise the Lord. May I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. He fills my life with good things, my youth is renewed like the eagles. The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He will not constantly accuse us nor remain angry forever. He does not punish us for all our sins, he does not deal harshly with us as we deserve. For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. He has removed our sins, as far from us as the east is from the west. The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. For he knows how weak we are, he remembers we are only dust. Our days on earth are like grass, like wildflowers we bloom and die. The wind blows and we are gone as though we had never been here. But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children's children. Of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments, the Lord has made the heavens his throne. From there he rules over everything. Praise the Lord, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. Yes, praise the Lord. You armies of angels who serve him and do his will. Proverbs 14, 17 through 19.

Proverbs On Anger And Wisdom

Short-tempered people do foolish things, and schemers are hated. I know that proverb's true, folks. Short-tempered people do foolish things. I can tell you that firsthand. Simpletons, and maybe I would argue, not only short-tempered people, but short-sighted. Some of the worst decisions in my life I've made because I just assumed everything was going to work out. Simpletons are clothed with foolishness, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge. Evil people will bow before good people, the wicked will bow at the gates of the godly.

Honor Violence And Hard Cultural Questions

September 2016, Bradford, UK. 46-year-old British Pakistani mother of five was stabbed to death by her husband, Zafar Akram, Muslim, and an honor killing after she wanted a divorce and greater independence. Mother of five stabbed to death by her own husband. And this is the crazy part, folks. This is the thing that makes Islam so radically different than Christianity. And it also shows why the idea of moderate Islam is just impossible. They defend those honor killings as a positive, as a benefit, as a plus. You can't deal with people that follow that ideology. And they all support it to one degree or another, folks.

Medal Of Honor And Immigrant Values

Born 1842, Ireland, died March 15, 1902. Buried Calvary Cemetery, 28, Tech 9, Tac D, Tac 21, Woodside, New York. Again, notice just an example of immigrants in our past who came here wanting to assimilate into our culture, wanting to make America better, wanting to follow most of all the principles of Christ, which the nation was founded on, versus what we get so often today. Particularly illegal immigrants and mass Muslim immigrants that do not want to make the nation stronger, but to destroy it. I don't think we have time for that, so we're going to skip that one.

Lincoln Quote And Salvation Appeal

We're going to read a couple of quotes. If you get a chance, there's other places you can find this. I've talked about this often. This is the American Patriots Bible, edited by Dr. Richard Lee. Phenomenal resource, has a lot of great stuff kind of all put together. I know this first quote for sure you can find in America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotes by Federer, but the Union Army lost the Second Battle of Bull Rudd in August of 1862, and it wasn't looking pretty. And this is a comment from President Lincoln. I've been driven many times upon my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insufficient for that day. Felt that before, folks. Still feel it on a regular basis. I want to read one more by Peter Cartwright. He was a Methodist circuit writer and evangelist in Tennessee, Kentucky, some of the surrounding states during the Second Great Awakening, which we need another Great Awakening so desperately today in America. And he was talking about his own conversion to Christianity. I went with weeping multitudes and bowed before the preaching stand and earnestly prayed for mercy. In the midst of a solemn struggle of soul, an impression was made upon my mind as though a voice said to me, Thy sins are all forgiven thee. When you realize, folks, as I do frequently, how overwhelming your sins are when you have nowhere else to go, as President Lincoln said, turn to Christ. Ask for mercy. He'll give it to you. God will give it to you because of his Son, Jesus Christ. Acknowledge that he is the Son of God, that he died for our sins, and that God raised him from the dead. And confess it with your mouth to somebody, to anybody. Just to the Holy Spirit, if you have no one else there to listen to you. Cry out to God. Our preacher talks often these days about the fact that two or more being gathered, right? That's that's we're heard when we have two or more. And he said, Well, if the Holy Spirit's there, there's you and the Holy Spirit, right? So even if you have nobody else, confess it to God and to the Holy Spirit. And you will be saved. God promises that. He promises all that. That's the only reason I have salvation and eternal life. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
