Joseph’s feet in fetters isn’t just a Bible detail, it’s a mirror. We start with Psalm 105 and the stark reminder that God sometimes lets the pressure stay on “until the time came,” not to crush us, but to test character and shape faith that can carry real responsibility. If you’re walking through pain, heartache, or uncertainty, we talk honestly about what it looks like to keep putting one foot in front of the other and to trust God’s timing without pretending the trial is small.

Then we move to John 4 and the question that exposes our excuses: do we believe Jesus only after we see the miracle? The official takes Jesus at His word and starts home before any proof arrives. We connect that to Proverbs 14, the fear of the Lord as security and refuge, and the hope that comes from knowing eternity has already begun for those who trust Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

We also hit practical life on the ground: a marriage passage from Song of Solomon and a challenging thought for parents and mentors. The people around us are either learning what they want to build or what they want to avoid, and our daily choices teach louder than our opinions. We close with history, persecution, and religious freedom, pushing back on the modern story that America was built on a purely secular foundation.

Joseph Tested In Chains

SPEAKER_00

Psalm 105 starting with verse 17. Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them, Joseph, who was sold as a slave. They bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar. Until the ki time came to fulfill his dreams. The Lord tested Joseph's character. Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free. The ruler of the nation opened his prison door. Joseph was put in charge of all the king's household, and he became ruler over all the king's possessions.

A Bus Stop Killing In Virginia

Stephanie Minter, February 24th, 2026, Fairfax County, Virginia. 41-year-old mother was fatally stabbed multiple times at a bus stop by Abdul Jalal, an illegal immigrant from Sierra Leone with over 30 prior arrests. Pretty could bet that Abdul's faith ideology was Muslim as well.

Opening Prayer For Courage

SPEAKER_00

Hey folks, this is Jesse Cope, back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast. Hope y'all are doing well, wherever y'all are, whatever part of the day you're in. Sure to appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time and attention, a little piece of your day. I will try and use it wisely. For those of y'all who continue to pray for me and for the podcast, thank you. For those of y'all who continue to share the podcast, thank you. Father, thank you for today. Thank you for this day that you have made. Help us to rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you for all the blessings you bestow upon us. The ones we acknowledge and the ones we don't for whatever reason. Help us to boldly proclaim the gospel of your son Jesus Christ. To share the gospel with others. To encourage fellow believers to lead those who are lost to you and your son Jesus Christ. Forgive us our sins, forgive us when we fail. Forgive us our doubts and our fears, our cowardice and our unbelief. Help us to overcome them all. We do believe. Help us to trust you. As Joseph did, even even in times of trial, maybe mostly there, Father. To put our faith in you, to put one foot in front of the other, to turn to you for encouragement, support, strength, and perseverance. Help us to forgive our enemies. Be with our nation. Turn us back to you, Father, and your Son Jesus Christ as a people. Help us to remember that any extension on life that you give us here as a nation, as individuals, we have a responsibility to use those talents that you've given us. Help us to use them wisely. To reach out to others who are lost for you. Be with those listening today. Bless them and their families. God, my words here, Father, in your Son's name we pray. Amen.

A Marriage Passage From Solomon

SPEAKER_00

Marriage verse for today. Song of Solomon 5, starting with verse 10. My beloved is radiant and ruddy, outstanding among ten thousand. His head is purest gold, his hair is wavy and black as a raven, his eyes are like doves by the water streams, washed in milk, mounted like jewels. His cheeks are like beds of spice yielding perfume. His lips are like lilies dripping with myrrh. His arms are rods of gold set with topaz. His body is like polished ivory decorated with lapis lazuli. His legs are pillars of marble set on bases of pure gold. His appearance is like Lebanon, choice as its cedars. His mouth is sweetness itself. He is altogether lovely. This is my beloved. This is my friend, daughters of Jerusalem.

What Your Marriage Teaches Others

SPEAKER_00

Little thought that has popped into my head today, thinking about the podcast. I heard this years ago. Our children, if you have children, folks, but even if you don't, those around you are either going to want a marriage like yours or they're going to actively not want a marriage like yours. You have to, I mean, it's it's a simple statement, it makes total sense, but I think if you really sit there for a minute, it's kind of deep in a lot of ways. We're either showing the world a marriage that our kids want, that those around us want, or we're showing them exactly what not to want.

Belief Before Miracles In John

SPEAKER_00

Bible verses for today, we're going to start with John 4, verse 43 through 54. At the end of the two days, Jesus went on to Galilee. He himself had said that a prophet is not honored in his own hometown. Yet the Galileans welcomed him, for they had been in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration and had seen everything he did there. As he traveled through Galilee, he came to Canaan, where he had turned the water into wine, Cana. There was a government official in nearby Capernaum, whose son was very sick. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son, who was about to die. Jesus asked, Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders? The official pleaded, Lord, please come now before my little boy dies. Then Jesus told him, Go back home, your son will live. And the man believed what Jesus said and started home. Do we believe what Jesus said in God's word? Do we believe what he says? Currently. While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well. He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, Yesterday afternoon, about one o'clock, his fever suddenly disappeared. Then the father realized that this was the very time Jesus had told him your son will live. And he and his entire household believed in Jesus. This was the second miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from Judea.

Joseph’s Trial And Fear Of God

SPEAKER_00

Psalm 105, verses 16 through 36. He, the Lord, called for a famine on the land of Canaan, cutting off its food supply. Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them. Joseph, who was sold as a slave, they bruised his feet with fetters and placed his neck in an iron collar until the time came to fulfill his dreams. The Lord tested Joseph's character. Remember that, whatever you're going through today, whatever problems you have, whatever pain, whatever heartache. And I'm not making light of it at all, folks, but remember how much some of these people and our history as Christians have been tested and tried. Then Pharaoh sent for him and set him free. The ruler of the nation opened his prison door. Joseph was put in charge of all the king's household. He became ruler over all the king's possessions. He could instruct the king's aides as he pleased and teach the king's advisors. Then Israel arrived in Egypt. Jacob lived as a foreigner in the land of Ham. And the Lord multiplied the people of Israel until they became too mighty for their enemies. Then he turned the Egyptians against the Israelites, and they plotted against the Lord's servants. But the Lord sent his servant Moses along with Aaron, whom he had chosen. They performed miraculous signs among the Egyptians and wonders in the land of Ham. The Lord blanketed Egypt in darkness, for they had defied his commands to let his people go. He turned their water into blood, poisoning all the fish. Then frogs overran the land and even invaded the king's bedrooms. When the Lord spoke, flies descended on the Egyptians, and gnats swarmed across Egypt. He sent them hail instead of rain, and lightning flashed over the land. He ruined their grapevines and fig trees and shattered all the trees. He spoke, and hordes of locusts came, young locusts beyond number. They ate up everything green in the land, destroying all the crops and their fields. Then he killed the oldest son in each Egyptian home, the pride and joy of each family. Proverbs 14, 26 and 27. Those who fear the Lord are secure he will be a refuge for their children. Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain. It offers escape from the snares of death, folks, in this life or the next. For sure in the next. But there's comfort in fearing the Lord and trusting in God and Jesus Christ because you know you've already started eternity. I struggle with this, folks. I struggle with this a lot, you know, pain, heartache. But to remember that we are already starting eternity because we we choose to believe in Jesus Christ as the risen Son of God. And we put everything on him. It's nothing we do, folks, and it's nothing some denomination can offer you, or some other pastor or priest, or pope, or cardinal, or bishop, or Mary, or Joseph, or the disciples. It's Jesus Christ alone as the mediator between God and us. And because of that, we have the promise of eternal life and salvation.

Honor Killing And A Hard Claim

SPEAKER_00

This is out of uh Iraq. Most of our incidents are either out of the UK or the USA, but uh or parts of Europe, actually. This is April 7, 2007, the Mosul area in Iraq. Um of course it's UK US because we were there, right? 17-year-old uh Yadzidi Kurdish girl was stoned to death by a mob, including family members from a Muslim-influenced community in an honor killing for a loping with a Muslim Arab man. They filmed the murder and circulated it online. And this is a great example of how there's no such thing as a moderate Muslim, right? Because the whole community was involved. It wasn't just it was it was the parents, family members, right? There is no such thing as a moderate leftist or Muslim, and that has gotten us in a lot of trouble because we want to believe that we can peacefully coexist alongside these supposed moderates, but but we can't because that doesn't really exist.

Medal Of Honor Profile

SPEAKER_00

Medal of Honor winner for today, John M. Burns, seaman, U.S. Civil War, USS Lackawanna. I probably didn't say that right. Sorry, U.S. Navy, Medal of Honor date, August 5th, 1864, Fort Morgan, Mobile Bay, Alabama, on board the USS Lackawanna. During the successful attacks against Fort Morgan, rebel gunboats and the Ram Tennessee in Mobile Bay on 5 August 1864. Although severely wounded and sent below under the surgeon's charge, Burns promptly returned to his station and assisted the Powder Division throughout the prolonged action, which resulted in the capture of the Rebel Ram, Tennessee, and in the damaging and destruction of Fort Morgan. Accredited to New York, not awarded posthumously, born 1835, Hudson, Columbia County, New York. And that's all the details at the end. John M. Burns. I think we have enough time here.

Attacks Abroad And Christian Roots

SPEAKER_00

June 26, 2015, Tanzania. Muslim gunmen attacked a popular tourist beach and the Imperial Marhaba Hotel. Killed sunbathers, hotel guests, 38 people mostly were British tourists, injured 39 others. The rampage or the attack lasted several minutes before he was shot by police, and Muslims immediately claimed responsibility. Again, no such thing as a moderate Muslim. So I've got one quote that I wanted to read, and then a little section, if I can find it real quick. We'll see. This is out of American Patriots Bible edited by Dr. Richard Lee. I couldn't find the quote in other places. I'm sure it's out there somewhere, but not as a primary source anyway. In 1564, Rene de Laudemer led a group of French Huguenots, who were French Protestants, right, Christians, to Fort Caroline. And this was his commentary on June 30th, 1564. We sang a psalm of thanksgiving unto God, beseeching him that it would please him to continue his accustomed goodness toward us. And so this sent me down a little rabbit trail, and there's a great section in the Spounder's Bible. If you don't have a copy, I highly recommend it, along with the Patriots Bible and the America's God and Country Encyclopedia of Quotes. And they've got quite a bit of really good sections on the French Huguenots in here, little commentaries. But I wanted to try and just read some statistics, talking about uh millions of people dying in the Thirty Years' War, 1618-1648 in Germany, uh, King Philip II killing and torturing thousands under the Spanish Inquisition, right? Uh Catholic Church there. And the Dutch fighting in the Spanish Netherlands under William of Orange. They were sieged, starved to death, right? And then in France, this butchering of French Huguenots, French Protestants, just by tens of thousands of people. And there's, as I said, there's another few examples in here, but they talk about the number of people fleeing Europe due to persecution by the Anglican Church and Britain, by the Catholic Church and most of Europe, torture, starvation, murder, burning at the stake. And there's this idea today in America that these were all these secularists came over, that they didn't want anything to do with religion. When the reverse is actually true, a huge percentage, the majority of these people fleeing, were looking for religious freedom, but not folks, in the sense of this coexist nonsense that we have today. They were looking specifically to be able to worship God and Jesus Christ without fear of persecution by the state or church. They didn't want to get rid of Jesus Christ, and they certainly weren't pretending that these imposter faiths, these false religions and faiths like Islam and Hinduism, Buddhism, Buddhism, sorry, and secularism, atheism, even Judaism, right? They weren't pretending that those were the same as Christianity, that they were equal to Christianity. They wanted to be able to follow the general principles of Jesus Christ, and that's what was poured into our founding, and we need to remember that today.

Lord’s Prayer And Blessing

SPEAKER_00

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families, your marriages if you're married, your nation, wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
