Drop us a note about the podcast.

Love is easy to praise and hard to practice, until Jesus defines it for us: “There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” We start there, in John 15, and let that command set the standard for everything else, from our relationships to our public witness. If you’ve ever wondered what Christian discipleship looks like when it’s not a slogan, this conversation keeps it concrete: each decision either draws us closer to God and Jesus Christ or nudges us away, and our sphere of influence is real whether we feel “important” or not.

We also spend time in Proverbs 31 and talk about biblical marriage, character, and the kind of actions that make a spouse priceless when charm fades and beauty passes. Then we return to John 15 to unpack what “bearing much fruit” actually means. It might be mentoring one person faithfully, raising a family in the fear of the Lord, or standing firm when Scripture-based truth brings criticism. Joy, we argue, is tied to remaining in Christ and obeying His commandments, not to applause or numbers.

From Psalm 119 and Proverbs 16, we draw a line between God’s promises and daily endurance, especially when life feels heavy. We also acknowledge hard headlines, the reality of trauma after sexual violence, and the call to protect the vulnerable. Finally, we look to American Christian heritage with examples of courage, including a Medal of Honor account and historical presidential oaths connected to Psalm 112 and Psalm 118, as a reminder that hope grows when we remember what’s true. Subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review, then tell us: what does “lasting fruit” look like in your life right now?

Love As The Core Command

SPEAKER_01

John fifteen, starting with verse twelve. This is my commandment. Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay one lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. Father, help us to do what your son commands and what you command. April 2026. Jorge Enrique Garcia Rodriguez, Franklin County, Virginia. Child under 13. Sexually abused. Also charged with possession of child pornography. He was a Mexican national, unlawfully present in the U.S. Pay attention, folks, if you haven't been to what's going on in Ireland. Probably gives you a little taste of where we're headed in the United States. There just simply is no peaceful coexistence possible alongside people that support leftism or Islam.

Why Your Choices Shape Others

SPEAKER_01

Hey folks, this is Jesse Cope, back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast. Hope y'all are doing well, wherever you all are, whatever part of the day you're in. Appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time. I will try and use it wisely. Hopefully, it draws us each a little closer to God and Jesus Christ as individuals. And hopefully it helps our nation to turn back to God and Jesus Christ, even if just a little bit. You gotta remember that, folks. Every you have a sphere of influence. Like Patrick Henry talked about, whatever it is, doesn't matter how big or small, you have a sphere of influence. And every decision that we make, everything we do, talking to myself here as much as any of y'all. Every decision we make either brings us a little closer or a little farther away from God and Jesus Christ.

Prayer For Families And Leaders

SPEAKER_01

Father, thank you for today. Thank you for you, Father, and your son, Jesus Christ, and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace and your forgiveness of sins through the merit of your son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for the people that you've put in our lives, Father. Please help us in our relationships, Father. Marriages, siblings, parents, children, friends, co-workers, neighbors. Draw us back to you. Be with those listening to the podcast, Father. Comfort them. Surround them with your angels, protect them from evil of any kind. Help us to love you with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength to love our neighbors as ourselves. Be with those children who are abandoned and abused across the nation and around the world. Be with those who are suffering for the sake of your son Jesus Christ. I guess we all are to a certain degree, Father. Those, though, who are imprisoned, raped, murdered, abused, help us to care for them, to support them, to encourage them, to protect them in any way we can. Be with our leaders. From the president, vice president on down, all the way down. Give them wisdom and courage and a strong faith. Help them to rule in fear of you. And please guide my words here. In your son's name we pray. Amen.

Proverbs 31 And Biblical Marriage

SPEAKER_01

Marriage verses for today, Proverbs 31, 10 through 12, 27 through 30. A wife of noble character who can find. She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed, her husband also, and he praises her. Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. There is so much in Proverbs 31, folks, but always because it's abused so much today, the Proverbs 31 woman ran her life around her husband first and her children at home after that. All of those decisions were based on those individuals in that order. Second, of course, to God and Jesus Christ, right? The Holy Spirit. The idea that Proverbs 31 encourages or approves, condones women to abandon their husbands and children at home and go out and chase athletics, academics, profession, career. It's just not true. The other thing that you see here in these ending verses, right? Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting. The thing that makes a wife so valuable, so beautiful, so singularly needed, wanted by her husband are actions, folks. It's not charm, it's not beauty, those are superficial. That might start the attraction, folks, but the thing that makes a wife priceless is actions. Husband, if you have a wife like that, make sure that you make her know that she's appreciated. Wives strive to be a wife like that.

John 15 On Fruit And Joy

SPEAKER_01

John 15, 1 through 27. I am the true grapevine, and my father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn't produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit, so they will produce even more. I never have liked that verse. You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me. Yes, I am the vine. You are the branches, those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted. When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father. I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. I want to go back to this verse real quick, folks. When you produce much fruit, this is just my opinion of reading this. Producing much fruit does not necessarily mean quantity, at least in a qualitative or quantitative measurement. Maybe in your life producing much fruit means mentoring, teaching, pastoring, depending on whether you're a man or a woman and what your role is. Just a couple people. Maybe it means a hundred people. Maybe it means a thousand people. Maybe it means one person. I think too often, I I know, as arrogant as that sounds, I know too often we compare ourselves to others. When God doesn't. And maybe there's a person out there that has saved a thousand people or led a thousand people to Jesus Christ, but they really wasted their talents. They should have saved 10,000 people. Should have led 10,000 people to Christ. And maybe there's somebody out there that God gave enough talent to to save or lead two people to Christ. And they led two people to Christ. And that person has produced much fruit relative to the one, even though they led a thousand people. So I have loved you even as the Father has loved me, remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father's commandments and remain in his love. I have told you these things so that you will be filled with joy. Yes, your joy will overflow. This is my commandment. Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves because a master doesn't confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn't choose me, I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for using my name. This is my commandment, love each other. If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first. The world would love you as one of its own if you belong to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you. Do you remember what I told you? Hey, folks, this happened to me recently. If you are preaching scripture, living scripture, and somebody gets on to you about it, you're doing the right thing. Right? If you're getting in trouble for I was talking to somebody about roles of men and women, and it's straight out of scripture, and they got all bent out of shape. Well, that's a pretty good sign that you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. Do you remember what I told you? A slave is not greater than the master, since they persecuted me naturally, they will persecute you, and if they had listened to me, they would listen to you. They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me. They would not be guilty if I had not come and spoken to them, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Anyone who hates me also hates my father. If I hadn't done such miraculous signs among them that no one else could do, they would not be guilty. But as it is, they have seen everything I did, yet they still hate me and my father. This fulfills what was written in the scriptures, they hated me without cause. But I will send you the advocate, the Spirit of truth. He will come to you from the Father and will testify all about me, and you must also testify about me because you have been with me from the beginning of my ministry.

Anchored By Promises Under Pressure

SPEAKER_01

Zayen, remember your promise to me, it is my only hope. Your promise revives me, it comforts me in all my troubles. The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from your instructions. I meditate on your age old regulations, O Lord, they comfort me. I became furio I become furious with the wicked because they reject your instructions. Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived. I reflect at night on who you are, O Lord, therefore I obey your instructions. This is how I spend my life obeying your commandments. Lord, you are mine, I promise to obey your words. With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised, I ponder the direction of my life, and I turn to follow your laws. I will hurry without delay to obey your commands. Evil people try and drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions. I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations. I am a friend to anyone who fears you, anyone who obeys your commandments. O Lord, your unfailing love fills the earth. Teach me your decrees. Father, help us to be a friend to anyone who fears you, anyone who obeys your commandments. In your Son's name we pray, Amen.

Commit Your Plans To God

SPEAKER_01

Proverbs 16, 1 through 3. We can make our own plans, but the Lord gives the right answer. People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motives. Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. Maybe not the way we think, folks, but they will succeed. August

A Crime Story And Long Trauma

SPEAKER_01

31st, 2024, early hours. Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Streets near nighttime economy areas and asylum accommodation. Abdurlaman Banashah, 19-year-old Iranian national Muslim who arrived at the UK illegally via small boat in March 2024.

SPEAKER_00

An asylum seeker living in home office accommodation. Targeted a woman walking home from a night out.

SPEAKER_01

Followed her, helped her up where she fell, then led her against her wishes to his friend's address where he sex pushed her down, sexually assaulted her.

SPEAKER_00

She screamed and escaped. But the victim described profound fear and lasting trauma.

SPEAKER_01

That's one of the things we don't talk about enough, folks, is the trauma that comes along with this all of this mass Muslim illegal immigration that lasts for so much longer than the initial contact.

Courage Examples From American History

SPEAKER_01

Medal of Honor winner for today, Bernard Albert Byrne, captain, highest rank lieutenant colonel, Philippine Insurrection, 6th U.S. Infantry, U.S. Army, July 19th, 1899. Babong, Negros, Philippine Islands, most distinguished gallantry in rallying his men on the bridge after the line had been broken and pushed back. Never give up, folks, ever. Accredited to Washington, D.C., not awarded posthumously, presented July 15, 1902, born October 19, 1853, Newport Barracks, Giles County, Virginia, died March 1st, 1910. Buried Arlington National Cemetery, PM 1 Tech 707, Arlington, Virginia. Bernard Albert Burn. B-Y-R-N-E, if I'm saying that right. Grover Cleveland, again. This is from 1885, Presidential Oath of Office, 112, Psalm 112, 4 through 10. Under the upright there arises light in the darkness. He is gracious and full of compassion and righteous. A good man deals graciously and limbs. He will guide his affairs with discretion. Surely he will never be shaken. The righteous will be an everlasting remembrance. He will not be afraid of evil tidings, his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord. His heart is established, he will not be afraid until he sees his desire upon his enemies. He has dispersed abroad, he has given to the poor, his righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor. The wicked will see it and be grieved. He will gnash his teeth and melt away. The desire of the wicked shall perish. Grover Cleveland again, 1885, presidential oath of office. That should be basic. Basic memorization, folks, for our students in public education across the nation. I mean, that ought to be in English, just politics, government, history, that ought to be basic memorization every year. One more. Rutherford B. Hayes, 1877, Presidential Oath of Office, Psalm 118, 11 through 13. They surround me, yes, they surround me, but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. They surrounded me like bees. They were quenched like a fire of thorns. For in the name of the Lord I will destroy them. You pushed me violently that I might fall. But the Lord helped me. Psalm 118, 11 through 13, again Rutherford B. Hayes, presidential oath of office in 1877. So, so much to offer, folks, if we would simply teach our children and remember ourselves how much God has been involved in the history of our nation, how much we need him and his son Jesus Christ. And so much encouragement available in these dark times that are coming. To look back at the dark times, to really look at them, folks, that we have lived through as a nation, where we have turned to God and Jesus Christ and the hope and the hope, the joy and the peace that's there, regardless of the outcome, because we're looking at eternity, not just that moment in time. Our
