Drop us a note about the podcast.
“What is truth?” Pilate’s question isn’t a relic from a dusty courtroom, it’s the question that keeps haunting our public life, our homes, and our churches. We open with John 18 and watch Jesus stand calmly in front of earthly power, saying his kingdom is not of this world and that he came to testify to the truth. That moment draws a bright line between convenience and conviction, and it forces us to ask where we’ve traded truth for comfort.
From there, we move from the courtroom to the living room with 1 Peter 3 and talk plainly about Christian marriage: conduct that speaks louder than words, beauty shaped by a gentle and quiet spirit, and husbands called to live with honor so prayers aren’t hindered. We also read through the crucifixion account in John 19, then connect it with Psalm 119 and Proverbs 16, where God calls out divided loyalties and demands justice, honest judgment, and fair standards.
We also reflect on the long-term consequences of cultural choices, highlight a recent criminal case tied to immigration debates, and then pivot to what real courage looks like with the Medal of Honor story of William Robert Caddy at Iwo Jima. We close with a striking Robert E. Lee Christmas letter on gratitude to Almighty God and a reminder that national celebrations mean little if God is missing from the center.

Pilate’s Question And Hard Headlines
SPEAKER_01John eighteen starting with verse thirty-seven. Pilate said, So you are a king. Jesus responded, You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true. What is truth? Pilate asked. April twenty twenty six. Actually, over the the period of all these different sexual assaults was almost ten years, twenty thirteen to twenty twenty-four.
SPEAKER_00Individual was Lionel Torablanca.
SPEAKER_01Indianapolis, Indiana. Rape related offenses against adult female victims, five linked cases in North Indianapolis. Home invasion. With prior ICE arrests and releases dating back to at least twenty twelve.
SPEAKER_00Ten years.
SPEAKER_01There's long-term consequences for illegal immigration and mass Muslim immigration. It's not just short term. It's not just the moment and the one victim. And it's not even just the moment for the one victim, folks. There's long-term repercussions. There's nothing kind or caring about supporting that.
Welcome And Opening Prayer
SPEAKER_01Hey, folks, this is Jesse Cope back with another episode of the American Soul Podcast. Hope y'all are doing well. Wherever y'all are, and whatever part of the day you're in, I sure do appreciate you joining me, giving me a little bit of your time and attention, a little piece of your day. I will try and use it wisely. Hopefully it'll draw us all a little closer to God and Jesus Christ. And hopefully it'll draw our nation a little closer to God and Jesus Christ as well, even if just a little bit. For those of y'all who continue to pray for me and for the podcast, thank you so much. Very, very grateful for your prayers and your support and encouragement. Father, thank you for this day that you have made. Help us to rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you for all the blessings that you bestow upon us as individuals and as a nation, the ones we admit and the ones we don't. Forgive us when we think in the vanity of our own hearts that we have built all of this without you. That it's because we're so great and so wonderful instead of acknowledging that these blessings come from your hand and your guidance and your providence. Help us to remember that. Father, help us to turn to you, to put you at the center of our lives, with deeds and actions, not merely words. Help us to care for the widow and the orphan, the poor and the needy. Help us to act justly, to love mercy, to walk humbly before you. Be with our leaders, both in the pulpit and in the state, and be with those listening.
SPEAKER_00Be with their families, Father, please bless their marriages, bless their children.
SPEAKER_01Keep us safe on the narrow way all the way home to you, Father. And God, my words here, please, in your Son's name we pray. Amen.
Marriage Counsel From 1 Peter
SPEAKER_01Marriage verses for today, 1 Peter 3, 1 through 7. Wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your own husbands, so that if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes, rather it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves. They submitted themselves to their own husbands, like Sarah who obeyed Abraham and called him her Lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. Husbands in the same way, be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner, and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
Jesus Before Pilate And The Cross
SPEAKER_01Meanwhile, as Simon Peter was standing by the fire warming himself, they asked him again, You're not one of his disciples, are you? He denied it, saying, No, I am not. But one of the household slaves of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, Didn't I see you out there in the olive grove with Jesus? Again Peter denied it, and immediately a rooster crowed. Jesus' trial before Caiaphas ended in the early hours of the morning. Then he was taken to the headquarters of the Roman governor. His accusers didn't go inside because it would defile them and they wouldn't be allowed to celebrate the Passover. So Pilate, the governor, went out to them and asked, What is your charge against this man? We wouldn't have handed him over to you if he weren't a criminal, they retorted. Then take him away and judge him by your own law, Pilate told them. Only the Romans are permitted to execute someone, the Jewish leaders replied. This fulfilled Jesus' prediction about the way he would die. Then Pilate went back to his headquarters and called for Jesus to be brought to him. Are you the king of the Jews? he asked him. Jesus replied, Is this your own question? Or did others tell you about me? Am I a Jew? Pilate retorted. Your own people and their leading priests brought you to me for trial. Why? What have you done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my kingdom is not of this world. Pilate said, So you are a king. Jesus responded, You say I am a king. Actually I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true. What is truth? Pilate asked. Then he went out again to the people and told them, He is not guilty of any crime, but you have a custom of asking me to release one prisoner each year at Passover. Would you like me to release this king of the Jews? But they shouted back, No, not this man. We want Barabbas. Barabbas was a revolutionary. Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip. The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him. Hail, king of the Jews, they mocked as they slapped him across the face. Pilate went outside again and said to the people, I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty. Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe, and Pilate said, Look, here is the man. When they saw him, the leading priests and the temple guards began shouting, Crucify him, crucify him. Take him yourselves and crucify him, Pilate said. I find him not guilty. The Jewish leaders replied, By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God. When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever. He took Jesus back to the headquarters again and asked him, Where are you from? But Jesus gave no answer. Why don't you talk to me? Pilate demanded, Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you? Then Jesus said, You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin. Then Pilate tried to release him, but the Jewish leader shouted, If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who declares himself a king is a rebel against Caesar. When they said this, Pilate brought Jesus out to them again. Pilate sat down on the judgment seat on the platform that is called the stone pavement. In Hebrew, Gabbatha. It was now about noon on the day of preparation for the Passover, and Pilate said to the people, Look, here's your king. Away with him, they yelled, Away with him, crucify him. What? Crucify your king, Pilate asked. We have no king but Caesar, the leading priests, shouted back. Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus away, carrying the cross by himself. He went to the place called Place of the Skull, in Hebrew Golgotha. There they nailed him to the cross. Two others were crucified with him, one on either side, with Jesus between them. And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read Jesus of Nazareth, Nazareth, the King of the Jews. The place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and the sign was written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek, so that many people could read it. Then the leading priests objected and said to Pilate, Change it from the King of the Jews to He said, I am the King of the Jews. Pilate replied, No. What I have written, I have written.
Psalm 119 And Loving God’s Law
SPEAKER_01Psalm one nineteen, one thirteen through one twenty eight. I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions. You are my refuge and my shield, your word is my source of hope. Get out of my life, you evil minded people, for I intend to obey the commands of the Lord, of my God. Lord, sustain me as you promised, that I may live. Don't let my hope be crushed. Sustain me, and I will be rescued. Then I will meditate continually on your decrees. But you have rejected all who stray from your decrees. They are only fooling themselves. You skim off the wicked of the earth like scum, no wonder I love to obey your laws. I tremble in fear of you, I stand in awe of your regulations. Don't leave me to the mercy of my enemies, for I have done what is just and right. Please guarantee a blessing for me. Don't let the arrogant oppress me. My eyes strain to see your rescue, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled. I am your servant, deal with me in unfailing love and teach me your decrees. Give discernment to me, your servant, then I will understand your laws. Lord, it is time for you to act, for these evil people have violated your instructions. Truly I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold. Each of your commandments is right. That is why I hate every false way. Proverbs sixteen, ten through eleven. The king speaks with divine wisdom. He must never judge unfairly. The Lord demands accurate scales and balances. He sets the standards for fairness.

Immigration Warning And Cultural Choice
SPEAKER_01Mohammed Shaki, I believe, 23-year-old Syrian Muslim asylum seeker small boat. He was housed at the Claydon Hotel, convicted in May 2026 of sexually assaulting two women in their early 20s in Falkirk, Scotland, in November of 2025. He targeted them after they left nightclubs. One assault involved pinning a woman against a tree. There is no peaceful coexistence in the United States or in the UK with followers of the left or followers of Islam. You can have Christ or chaos. You can have liberty or slavery. But you can't have both.
Medal Of Honor Self-Sacrifice
SPEAKER_01Medal of Honor winner for today, William Robert Caddy, PFC World War II, India Company, 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. March 3, 1945, Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a rifleman with India Company 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, 5th Marine Division, in action against Japanese forces during the seizure of Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands, 3 March 1945. Consistently aggressive PFC Caddy boldly defied shattering Japanese machine gun and small arms fire to move forward with his platoon leader and another Marine during the determined advance of his company through an isolated sector and gaining the comparative safety of a shell hole took temporary cover with his comrades. Immediately pinned down by deadly sniper fire from a well-concealed position. He made several unsuccessful attempts to again move forward and then, joined by his platoon leader, engaged the enemy in a fierce exchange of hand grenades until the Japanese grenade fell beyond the reach, beyond reach in the shell hole. Fearlessly disregarding all personal danger, PFC Caddy instantly dived on the deadly missile, absorbing the exploding charge in his own body and protecting the others from serious injury. Stouthearted and indomitable, he unhesitatingly yielded his own life that his fellow Marines might carry on the relentless battle against a fanatic enemy. His dauntless courage and valiant spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of certain death reflect the highest credit upon PFC Caddy and upon the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his comrades. Credited to Massachusetts awarded posthumously, presented September 8, 1946, Montclair School Lawn, Montclair, Massachusetts, by Rear Admiral Morton L. Deo, Commandant of the 1st Naval District to his family. Born August 8th, 1925, Quincy, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, died March 3rd, 1945, Iwashima, Volcano Islands. Buried National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punch Bowl, MHC Tac 81, Honolulu, Hawaii. William Robert Caddy, another name we need to remember far more than professional college athletes and their statistics, singers, songwriters, actors, and actresses in their movie lines, folks, talking to myself as much as any of y'all.
Robert E. Lee On Gratitude
SPEAKER_01I'm going to read a letter from Robert E. Lee, December 25th, 1862, from his headquarters, Army of Northern Virginia, following the Battle of Fredericksburg. It was a letter he wrote to his wife, Mary Ann Randolph Curtis Lee. I will commence this holy day by writing to you. My heart is filled with gratitude to Almighty God for his unspeakable mercies with which he has blessed us in this day, for those he has granted us from the beginning of life, and particularly for those he has vouchsafed us during the past year. What should have become of us without his crowning help and protection? Oh, if our people would only recognize it and cease from vain self-boasting and adulation, how strong would be my belief and final success and happiness of our country. But what a cruel thing is war, to separate and destroy families and friends and mar the purest joys and happiness God has granted us in this world, to fill our hearts with hatred instead of love for our neighbors, and to devastate the fair face of this beautiful world. I pray that on this day when only peace and good will are preached to mankind, better thoughts may fill the hearts of our enemies and turn them to peace. Our army was never in such good health and condition since I have been attached to it. I believe they share with me the disappointment that the enemy did not renew the combat on the thirteenth. I was holding back all day and husbanding our strength and ammunition for the great struggle for which I thought I was preparing. Had I divined that was to have been his only effort, he would have had more of it. My heart bleeds at the death of every one of our gallant men. I suppose our enemy is very Christmas like today. I send Rob his letter with a few lines. I hope he is well and happy. I have not heard whether any of the girls are with you. I wish I could give them all a Christmas greeting. I have no news. Give much love to all, truly and devotedly yours, R. E. Lee. Written shortly again after the Confederate victory at Fredericksburg, December 13th, 1862.
Why Nations Rise Or Fall
SPEAKER_01There's a lot here, folks, that you could dig into, but I know for myself this one line in the first half. Oh, if our people would only recognize it and cease from the vain self-boasting and adulation, how strong would be my belief in the final success and happiness to our country. It's wonderful to see all the patriotism with the 250th celebration, but it's concerning that it's not openly apparent that at the center of that celebration is our thanks to God, our gratitude to God for the mercies that He's blessed us with. Now, in the past, with His help, His protection, as Lee said here. If we don't turn back to God and Jesus Christ first and foremost, folks, nothing else we matter we do matters in the long run. We might have some short-term success, right? But in the long run, it won't matter. And and you see that the the Civil War is a great example of that. There was no way that God was going to bless an endeavor so closely tied to an evil like slavery. You could talk about the evil today of abortion. Our success is wholly centered on our relationship with God and Jesus Christ. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom of the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Lord’s Prayer And Final Blessing
SPEAKER_01God bless you all. God bless your families, your marriages if you're married, your children, your nation, wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We will talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
