God’s Timing Is Not Ours, So Keep Calling
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Drop us a note about the podcast.
A lot of conversations about faith stay safely abstract. We don’t. We open with Scripture about being rescued when the enemy is too strong, then we step straight into a real headline and the kind of moral questions that make people uncomfortable: what do we protect, what do we excuse, and what do our votes and our silence actually support?
From there, we slow down and pray. We thank God for the basics we overlook and we ask Him to comfort anyone carrying anxiety, depression, fear, illness, or doubt. Then we read Proverbs 27 and talk candidly about conflict in marriage, the quiet damage of constant quarrels, and the power a husband and wife have to build a home that feels safe or slowly rots from the inside.
The heart of the conversation is Acts 2 and Pentecost. We read Peter’s message about Jesus’ death and resurrection, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the promise that “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” We also admit something many believers feel but rarely say out loud: the “last days” timeline can be hard to understand, and waiting can be wearying. We land on trust, not trivia God’s timing is not ours, and His mercy reaches farther than we can see.
We close with a story about flags, assimilation, and divided allegiance, honor a Medal of Honor recipient, and share a blunt Teddy Roosevelt quote on becoming fully American. If you care about Christian heritage, Bible study, prayer, Pentecost, patriotism, and what loyalty looks like in real life, listen through to the end and then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review.

For those of y'all that continue to share the podcast and also share the America's Christian Heritage Podcast and also the countryside series. I appreciate it very much. Thank y'all so much. But most of all, for those of y'all who continue to pray for me and for the podcast, thank you very, very much for your prayers. Very grateful. Need them and want them. Father, thank you for today. Thank you for you, Father, and your son Jesus Christ and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness of sins through the merit of your son, Jesus Christ. Thank you for all the many blessings that you bestow upon us as individuals and as a nation. So many that we take for granted. Father, clean water to drink, food to eat, a warm, safe place to sleep, health. I mean cars that run.
SPEAKER_00Clothes that don't have holes in them. At least unless it's by design. The people that you've put in our lives, Father, to encourage us, to support us.
SPEAKER_01Help us to do the same for others. Help us to truly follow the commands of your Son Jesus Christ so that people get a little glimpse of him, hopefully, in us through our actions. Help us to love you with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength to love our neighbors as ourselves. Be with those listening to the podcast, Father, please comfort them. Any injury or illness or anxiety, depression, fear, concern, doubt.
SPEAKER_00Help them to feel your peace, to feel your presence, and to hope in your promise through your son Jesus Christ that you will bring us safely home to you in the end. And God, my words here, Father, please.
SPEAKER_01And be with our military, our law enforcement, our firefighters. Keep them safe. Protect them, protect their families. Give them a strong faith, wisdom, and courage, and our leaders in the pulpit and in the state as well, Father, please. In your son's name we pray. Amen. Marriage
Proverbs On Conflict In Marriage
SPEAKER_01verse. Verses for today. Proverbs 27, 15 and 16. Quarrelsome wife is like the dripping of a leaky roof in a rainstorm. Restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with a hand.
SPEAKER_00Slips through your fingers, right? Just constantly. Annoying. Rotting away at the house inside.
SPEAKER_01That's the way God describes a quarrelsome wife. Be a warning to you folks, young men, not to marry a woman that's contentious, that's you know, you you see all these books today about being strongly opinionated. There's a huge difference between a woman that is convicted and has strong morals, a strong moral foundation in God, and a loud, obnoxious, opinionated woman that's quarrelsome, contentious. And women realize how much power you have in your own house to build it up or to tear it down to to protect what's inside or to be like the leaky roof that just over time rots whatever that dripping lands on. Acts
Pentecost, Repentance, And The Spirit
SPEAKER_012, starting with verse 1. On the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each one of them, and everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. At that time there were devout Jews from every nation living in Jerusalem. When they heard the loud noise, everyone came running, and they were bewildered to hear their own languages being spoken by the believers. They were completely amazed. How can this be? They exclaimed, these people are all from Galilee, and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages. Here we are, Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Ponchus, the province of Asia, Phrygia, Pamphlia, Egypt, and areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done. They stood there amazed and perplexed. What can this mean? They asked each other. But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying, They're just drunk, that's all. Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd, Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem. Make no mistake about this, these people are not drunk, as some of you are assuming. Nine o'clock in the morning is much too early for that. No, what you see was predicted long ago by the prophet Joel. In the last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams. In those days I will pour out my spirit even on my servants, men and women alike, and they will prophesy, and I will cause wonders in the heavens above, and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and clouds of smoke, the sun will become dark, and the moon will turn to blood red before the great and glorious day of the Lord arrives. But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Lord, help us. Help us to call on your name each day, every day. Save us. Your son's name we pray. Amen. People of Israel listened. God publicly endorsed Jesus the Nazarene by doing powerful miracles, wonders, and signs through him, as you well know. But God knew what would happen. And his prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed him to a cross and killed him. But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip. King David said this about him: I see that the Lord is always with me, I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is glad and my tongue shouts his praises. My body rests in hope. For you will not leave my soul among the dead, or allow your holy one to rot in the grave. You have shown me the way of life, and you will fill me with the joy of your presence. Dear brothers and sisters, think about this. You can be sure that the patriarch David wasn't referring to himself, for he died and was buried, and his tomb is still here among us. But he was a prophet, and he knew God was promised. He knew God had promised with an oath that one of David's own descendants would sit on the throne. On his throne, David was looking into the future and speaking of the Messiah's resurrection. He was saying that God would not leave him among the dead or allow his body to rot in the grave. God raised Jesus from the dead, and we are all witnesses of this. Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven at God's right hand. And the Father, as he promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today. For David himself never ascended into heaven. Yet he said, The Lord said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet. So let everyone in Israel know for certain that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified to be both Lord and Messiah. Peter's words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, Brothers, what should we do? Peter replied, Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away, all who have been called by the Lord our God. Then Peter continued preaching for a long time, strongly urging all his listeners, save yourselves from this crooked generation. Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day, about 3,000 in all. All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles' teachings and to fellowship and to sharing in meals, including the Lord's Supper and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all. And the apostles performed many miracles, signs, and wonders, and all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the temple each day, met at homes for the Lord's Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity, all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each
Wrestling With The Last Days
SPEAKER_01day the Lord added to their fellowship those who remained saved. Sometimes I've struggled with this, folks. Maybe it'll help you a little bit if you do too. This this timeline, you know, in the last days. Were those the last days? Are these the last days? What's the timing? And I don't have all the answers about this, folks, but if you've ever struggled with wondering, you know, why this is still going on, why we're still here, why Jesus hasn't returned? God's goal, at least when I read Scripture, seems to be to save as many as possible. Maybe the way to save as many as possible, even though it seems strange to us, is to wait until now, until later, until whenever. And also, God's timing is not our timing. The last days, what does that mean to God? I don't know. I don't know. I can't answer that. But he tells us specifically that his thoughts are not our thoughts and his ways are not our ways. So as our pastor has said so often, you know, if we could explain everything, if we knew everything, that would make us God. And we're not. Especially in my case, thankfully. Anyway, uh maybe hopefully that comforts you a little too, you know. God knows what he's doing, even if it seems hard for us to figure out or impossible. Psalm 122, 1 through 9. And I don't say that flippantly, folks. There's times in my life when things are really hard that I don't really feel like God knows what he's doing. So please don't take that as me saying if you're going through a really dark time in your life, that you shouldn't have those doubts and fears. I'm really just trying to comfort and encourage, uh, not make you feel like you're failing somehow, because I certainly uh don't feel like it sometimes when I'm going through some really dark times. Psalm 122, 1 through 9. I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord, and now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a well-built city. Its seamless walls cannot be breached. All the tribes of Israel, the Lord's people, make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law requires of Israel. Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. Pray for the peace, for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, May you have peace. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. Proverbs 16, 19 through 20. Better to live humbly with the poor than to share plunder with the proud. Those who listen to instruction will prosper. Those who trust the Lord will be joyful. Countryside,
Praying For Peace And Trust
SPEAKER_01if you're looking for a family-friendly little grade, read, kind of like Narnia the Hobbit, Percy Jackson, Harry Potter. If you would check out the Countryside series, two books so far, I would appreciate it. And if you enjoy them, if you'd leave a review somewhere online, I would appreciate that. There's hardback, paperback, ebook, whatever you like. Uh same thing for the podcast. If you feel like you're getting something out of this one, the American Soul Possible Podcast or the Sister uh podcast, the America's Christian Heritage Podcast, if you'd leave a review online, those help immensely. And then if you have five or ten dollars a month, you can donate to the podcast. I would be grateful for that too. There's links in the show notes where you can find the book and also uh the link to make the monthly set up the monthly donations. Thank you for any or all of those. I'm gonna
Flags, Assimilation, And American Identity
SPEAKER_01interject something here. I I know we're already running up against the line. This is probably gonna go a little long, and I apologize, but uh I had an experience the other day. I was going into a lumber yard, and there was a couple that came in the door, and they were wearing shirts, I'm sure, for the World Cup that's been going on the last few weeks, and they were Mexico. And they they may have been for Mexico, for all I know. I have no idea. Uh but I kind of doubt it because we're a long way from any of the World Cup events. And I I thought to myself, you know, if if you really love another country so much that you want to wear their flag and honor their nation, their culture, their heritage over the United States, then you really ought to go live there, not here. And I say that if I was gonna live in Italy, for example, if I loved that country so much that I wanted to move there and live there, I would do everything I could to assimilate to that culture that I supposedly loved so much. And and I so I got to talking to a gentleman that I I trusted a great deal. I trust immensely, uh, who also happened to serve in the military, and we got to talking about this. He made the comment that I should share this on the podcast, and so I'm doing that at his behest. And he talked about the fact that we've had so many people bleed and die for this country, that if you love another country so much, you dishonor those people by being here, taking the advantages, the benefits of living here, but disgracing, disrespecting whatever you want to use, uh belittling our flag, our anthem, our Christian heritage. And you don't deserve to live here. You haven't earned it. You deny it by your by your actions. And and then this gentleman made the follow-on comment that in the military when he served, there were so many that had come from other countries, specifically Mexico in this case, we were talking about that because that's what the people were wearing, that came and bled and died for this country because they love this country so much. And that's the great irony to me is the people that have come here from so many other places in the world that love the United States and our flag and our anthem and our freedom and our liberty and our Christian heritage, most of all. And then other people come from those same places, but they really still consider those places that they came from home. Then you need to go back home. You don't deserve to be here. You haven't earned the right to be here. Your actions uh repudiate, if that's the right word, you even being here. And it's it's just disgraceful.
Medal Of Honor And Roosevelt Quote
SPEAKER_01We were gonna read a pretty lengthy quote by Pope John Paul II, but I think we'll save that. But we'll go ahead and read our Medal of Honor for today. Ivers S. Caulkin, first sergeant, U.S. Civil War, Mike Company, 2nd New York Cavalry, U.S. Army, April 6th, 1865. Deatonsville, Sailor's Creek, Virginia, capture a flag of the 18th Virginia Infantry, CSA. Credited to Willsboro of Essex County, New York, not awarded posthumously, presented May 3, 1865. Born May 29th, 1836, Elizabethtown, Essex County, New York, died February 16th, 1902, Montague, Michigan. Buried Oak Grove Cemetery, Montague, Michigan, 100 Tac, Debbie Tac 3. Ivers S. Caukin. And I'll leave you with this. I don't have the quote right in front of me. Actually, I do. I've got one of them. Uh Teddy Roosevelt. And I'm not sure on the date right now. I don't have the date in front of me. I've read it before on the podcast. In the first place, we should insist that the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us. He shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else. For it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the persons becoming in every facet an American and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American but something else also isn't an American at all. We have but room for one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty, and that is loyalty to the American people. If you don't love the American flag, leave.
SPEAKER_00If you're not willing to learn English, leave.
SPEAKER_01And if you don't have loyalty to America, to the American people, which you can't have unless you have loyalty to the principles of Jesus Christ, leave.
SPEAKER_00Or assimilate.
SPEAKER_01Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for that is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families, your nation, wherever you are around the world listening, your marriages, your children if you have them. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon. Folks, looking forward to it.
