If Justice Cannot Sleep Forever Then What Now

Hosea 9 doesn’t sound like polite religion. It sounds like a warning siren: unfaithfulness leads to emptiness, worship becomes polluted, and exile becomes imaginable. We sit with that chapter and ask the uncomfortable question it raises for any nation that has been richly blessed: what happens when we keep the benefits of God’s gifts while rejecting God Himself?

From there, we wrestle with the way people use words like “oppression” today. We tell a modern story of family violence that we point to as a brutal example of what oppression can look like in real life, and we contrast it with the kinds of complaints that often dominate American culture. A Shaquille O’Neal story about “pressure” adds another angle, pushing us toward gratitude, honesty, and a clearer moral vocabulary.

We also pause to pray for you, your family, and our leaders, then read Proverbs 5:18–19 and speak plainly about marriage, commitment, and mutual responsibility. Finally, we connect Hosea’s themes to American history by quoting founders who repeatedly compared America’s fight for liberty to Israel’s Exodus and even proposed Great Seal imagery drawn straight from Moses and the Red Sea. Hosea’s Warning Against Unfaithfulness

Hosea chapter 9, starting with verse 1. O people of Israel, do not rejoice as other nations do. For you have been unfaithful to your God, hiring yourselves out like prostitutes, worshipping other gods on every threshing floor. So now your harvest will be too small to feed you. There will be no grapes for making new wine. You may no longer stay here in the Lord's land. Instead, you will return to Egypt, and in Assyria, you will eat food that is ceremonial ceremonially unclean.

A Murder Framed As “Honor”

Noor Thala Almaliki, 20-year-old American, murdered by her father in Peora, Arizona, 2009. Muslim family that immigrated to Arizona in the mid-1990s. And her family thought that she had become too westernized. She rejected her arranged marriage to a cousin in Iraq and was living with her boyfriend's family. Her father drove his Jeep into her and her boyfriend's mother ran over his daughter Nora, causing brain bleeding partial paralysis. The boyfriend's mother suffered a fractured pelvis and other injuries, but survived. In November of 2009, life support was withdrawn. And returned to the U.S. in 2011. Just again, folks, just Islam. I mean, that's that's all it has to offer us. That's all it has to offer our daughters, grandchildren, our wives. Slavery, rape, pillage, plunder, murder. It's always fascinating to me, too. It's the feminists, especially inside the church, that talk about how oppressive it is to follow God's word, to submit to their husbands and everything, to eagerly physically satisfy them, always them at all times.

Shaq’s Lesson On Real Pressure

There's a video, I know I'm hopping around here. Pretty famous basketball player, Shaquille O'Neal, played in the NBA for years. Talked about having a really bad night one game and came home and his father was irritated and took him out. Some of y'all may know this story. Took him out early, early the next morning. 0-5. And O'Neill didn't have a clue why, what was going on. His father was, he could tell his father was upset. And they ended up driving to this bridge in the town that they lived in, I think back in California. And they sat there for quite a while, 30 minutes, hour somehow. And eventually this family, husband and then the wife, and then the two kids, came out of this tent underneath the bridge, and his father looked at him and said, You, you rich, whiny professional athletes don't know anything about pressure. That's pressure. I'm wondering where your next meal is going to come from, how you're going to provide for your family. He said, That's pressure. You don't know anything about pressure. I easily with zero hesitation would make the same comment to women in America today. You don't know anything about being oppressed. Nothing. The women in Iraq and Afghanistan and Iran, the women like Muor here who are run over by their own fathers because they refuse an arranged marriage or they're not acting the way they're supposed to. That's oppression. The woman that the story from just the last few years in Iran, who was being attempted, attempted to be raped by this Iranian intelligence officer, and fought back and actually ended up accidentally killing the intelligence officer for trying to rape her, but she was then executed because there weren't enough men to witness the supposed alleged rape. That's oppression. If you're a Christian in America, first of all, it's not oppression to follow God's word. You think there's a lot of men out there that don't want to get up and go to work every day to protect and provide for their family? But they're not oppressed. You having to, or being supposed to, because a lot of them don't even do it to begin with, submit to your husbands and everything and eagerly physically satisfy them always and at all times. You're not oppressed.

Prayer For Families And Leaders

Father, thank you for today. Thank you for you, Father, and your son Jesus Christ and your Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love and your mercy, your grace, and your forgiveness of sins through the merit of your son, Jesus Christ. Please be with those who are listening to the podcast. Be with their families, surround them with your angels, protect them from evil of any kind. Guide their thoughts and their words and their actions. Help us to do your will, Father. Above all else, help us to do your will. Help us to love you with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength to love our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us when we fail to do so. Forgive us when we choose to go our own way. Help us to be humble, Father. To walk humbly before you. And be with our leaders. President and Vice President on down. Keep them safe. Proverbs 5 And Marital Duty

Marriage verse for today, Proverbs 5, 18 and 19. May your fountain be blessed. May you rejoice in the wife of a youth, a loving dear, a graceful doe. May her breast satisfy you always. May you ever be intoxicated with her love. Husbands, you have a responsibility to be always satisfied, always intoxicated. Wives, you have a responsibility to always satisfy, always intoxicate. So I'm going to skip our normal reading today. We're going to read Hosea chapter 9. And we're going to talk a little bit about our founders, the first seal for our nation that was originally created.

O people of Israel, do not rejoice as other nations do. For you have been unfaithful to your God, hiring yourselves out like prostitutes, worshiping other gods on every threshing floor. So now your harvest will be too small to feed you. There will be no grapes for making new wine. You may no longer stay here in the Lord's land. Instead, you will return to Egypt, and in Assyria you will eat food that is ceremonially unclean. There you will make no offerings of wine to the Lord, none of your sacrifices there will please him. They will be unclean like food touched by a person in mourning. All who present such sacrifices will be defiled. They may eat this food themselves, but they may not offer it to the Lord. What then will you do on festival days? How will you observe the Lord's festivals? Even if you escape destruction from Assyria, Egypt will conquer you, and Memphis will bury you. Nettles will take over your treasures of silver, thistles will invade your ruined homes. The time of Israel's punishment has come, the day of payment is here, soon Israel will know this all too well. Because of your great sin and hostility, you say the prophets are crazy, and the inspired men are fools. The prophet is a watchman over Israel for my God, yet traps are laid for him wherever he goes. He faces hostility even in the house of God. The things my people do are as depraved as what they did in Giba long ago. God will not forget, he will surely punish them for their sins. The Lord says, O Israel, when I first found you, it was like finding fresh grapes in the desert. When I saw your ancestors, it was like seeing the first ripe figs of the season. But then they deserted me for veil pure, giving themselves to that shameful idol. Soon they became vile, as vile as the god they worshiped. The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird, for your children will not be born or grow in the womb or even be conceived. Even if you do have children who grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone. I have watched Israel become as beautiful as tear. But now Israel will bring out her children for slaughter. O Lord, what should I request for your people? I will ask for wombs that don't give birth, and breasts that give no milk. The Lord says all their wickedness began at Gilgal. There I began to hate them. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. The people of Israel are struck down, their roots are dried up, and they will bear no more fruit. And if they give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children. My God will reject the people of Israel because they will not listen or obey. They will be wanderers, homeless among the nations.

Founders Compared America To Israel

So what did we read, uh, Hosea? I have felt often over the past year or two of the podcast, and seems to be more frequent of late, that there's a lot of similarities between the Israelites, the Jews in the Old Testament being given the promised land, and our founders being given America. And that's not a unique opinion. You go back and look at some quotes from our history, Patrick Henry, for example, talking to local militia as British troops began seizing public supplies and colonial gunpowder. He reminded them of the pillar of cloud and the pillar of fire which guided the children of Israel, of the water gushing from the rock at Horeb, of the miraculous passage of the Red Sea, and then with his eye uplifted, his arms aloft, and his whole soul burning with inspiration, declared that the same God still ruled in heavens and that he was watching from his throne the oppressions of his people in America, and that he was still strong to deliver and mighty to save. Samuel Adams, 1776, I believe. I scruple not to affirm it as my opinion that his King George III's heart is more obdurate, and his disposition towards the people of America is more unrelenting and malignant than was that of Pharaoh towards the Israelites in Egypt. But let us not be impatient, it requires time to convince the doubting and inspire the timid. Caesar Rodney, one of the signers of the Declaration. The Israelites, the chosen people of God, met with crosses and disappointments in their journey from the land of bondage to that of liberty. But by a steady perseverance and divine assistance, they at length possessed the promised land. And though he permitteth temporary obstructions, will one day crown his virtuous endeavors with success and cause the modern pharaohs with their hosts be buried in the sea of their Troyism, Toryism, as he did the ancient Pharaoh in the Red Sea. You see their references again to fighting against the British, seeing themselves as the Israelites fighting for freedom from Pharaoh, right? Benjamin Rush writing to Patrick Henry in 1778, I think. Sir, we have only passed the Red Sea. A dreary wilderness is still before us, and unless a Moses or a Joshua are raised up in our behalf, we must perish before we reach the promised land. And the last thing here is when the Declaration of Independence was approved July 4, 1776, that same day it appointed John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin to design a seal for America. Franklin proposed this: Moses lifting up his wand and dividing the Red Sea, and Pharaoh and his chariot overwhelmed with the waters. And this motto, rebellion to tyrants, is obedience to God. Jefferson proposed the children of Israel in the wilderness led by a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. Interesting, isn't it, that both of those men are held up as deists. And yet in this moment, this creation of this new nation, when they're drafting a seal for it, they turn not to the Enlightenment or the Roman Pagan Republic, but they turn to God.

Modern Idols And A Call To Obey

And you look at some of these verses. You look at verse 1. So now your harvest will be too small to feed you. There will be no grapes for making new wine. You may no longer stay here in the Lord's land. Instead, you will return to Egypt, and in Assyria you will eat food that is ceremonially unclean. It's hard for me not to look at our nation today and see that we have been unfaithful to God. We have worshipped other gods, sports, sex, alcohol, drugs, entertainment, TV, movies, social media. We have made little gods, money of all these things. Idols. Things that can't talk, can't speak, right? That aren't God. And it's hard not to wonder if God's not going to look at us and say, you can't stay here anymore in America. I gave you this land with all these blessings. I brought you out of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh, right? Away from British control from the king and parliament and gave you this wonderful land, and you've turned your back on me. And we've had people been warning us for decades. Sometimes, probably in my arrogance or my naivety, I think I feel like I'm the only one. But I know I'm not. I know there's there's people that are saying this, people with much bigger audiences that reach more people and that have been for decades. But if you look at verse 7 and 8, the time of Israel's punishment has come, the day of payment is here soon. Israel will know this all too well. Because of your great sin and hostility, you say, the prophets are crazy, and the inspired men are fools. The prophet is a watchman over Israel for my God, yet traps are laid for him. Wherever he goes, he faces hostility even in the house of God. How many today, how many pastors and priests have we refuse to listen to when they've talked about feminism, when they've talked about abortion, when they've talked about illegal immigration or mass Muslim immigration? And maybe you say, well, we haven't had those. We haven't had enough. And I agree with you, we need another great awakening. We we need more of those men, but we've had some. And how do we treat them? How do we act when they come and they warn us that we're putting other things before God, that we're sinning? Do we not often call those people crazy? Do we not often look at these inspired men and say that they're foolish? You look at verse 11. The glory of Israel will fly away like a bird. Verse 10 before that, but then they deserted me for Bel Pior, giving themselves to that shameful idol. Soon they became vile, as vile as the God they worshipped again. Do we not worship today with our time and energy and effort? I'm talking to myself here, folks, as much as y'all, but can we not be honest? Can we not at least admit how much energy and time and affection we give to things besides God? Before our spouse, too, for that matter. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. The people of Israel are struck down, their roots are dried up, they will bear no more fruit, and if they do give birth, I will slaughter their beloved children. My God will reject the people of Israel because they will not listen or obey. They will be wanderers, homeless among the nations. Are we listening to God today? Are we obeying Him? Do we not elect? You know, we we like to point at the last election cycle or the last two or three or four even or five even election cycles and say, oh, this is where everything went south. But that's not true, folks. We've been on this path for a long time. We've been on this path for a long time. And we've elected these people. Before there was any talk of gerrymandering or rigging elections, we elected these people. The only hope we have, folks, and it is a great hope, I sound doom and gloom, and I think a lot of the prophets probably did too when they were talking. Not that I consider myself a prophet at all, but I think logically, you look at America, it's impossible when you really dig into history, or it's it's highly improbable to look at that and not see the connection with God and Jesus Christ. And it's hard not to look today and see how much we've been rejecting him and his son Jesus Christ. And to think that we're in fear, as Jefferson said, tremble because I know that my God is just and his justice cannot sleep forever. That we're in fear of being exiled from America, overrun by the invaders.

Hope In Christ And Closing Prayer

But our hope, our hope is God in Jesus Christ. No matter what. Whether we're exiled or not, we have that eternal hope. Just like the Israelites that were exiled to Babylon. And it is a great hope. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us the stay our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom of the power and the glory forever and ever.
